KSAT's Mouton to Receive Capitol Hill Honor

By Jeanne Jakle San Antonio Express-News

A San Antonio anchorwoman and a San Antonio-set TV series are making the city especially proud these days as the recipients of award after award. The date has been set for KSAT noon and 6 p.m. newscaster Leslie Mouton to join the likes of actress Jane Seymour, national newswoman Paula Zahn and NBC "Today" co-host Katie Couric. At a presentation on Capitol Hill Sept. 20, she'll receive the Congressional Families Action for Cancer Awareness award, which is presented to members of the media for their moving, and frequently personal, coverage of cancer and its prevention. Congressman Charlie Gonzalez nominated Mouton for the award; KSAT looks forward to Gonzalez honoring the anchorwoman in advance at a special City Hall presentation sometime in July. If you'll recall, Couric, soon after her husband's death from colon cancer, was recognized for her brave first- person account of what it's like to go through a thorough colon examination.

Mouton, of course, has been the focus of many a national story on network and syndicated programs such as "Good Morning America," "20-20," "Today" and "Inside Edition," to name a few, for her courageous and intimate reports on her own breast cancer. She gave viewers reminder after reminder about how important it is to catch the disease early. Mouton also provided a guided tour through each stage of her treatment: the surgery to remove the lump, the chemotherapy and radiation, the sickness and depression she experienced at certain points of her recovery. She even anchored a newscast bald in an effort to help other cancer patients deal with the pain of losing their hair.

Now she anchors the noon and 6 p.m. newscasts in her own clipped hair, which has returned to her darker natural shade, instead of a wig to reassure others that they, too, will get through their ordeal. KSAT publicist David Cuccio announces the station has put together a video of Mouton's journey, "Leslie's Story: A Diary of Breast Cancer." The station will provide complimentary copies to San Antonio libraries and a wide variety of health agencies. source:http://www.tvspy.com/
